Member Comments: We had Joe and Steve from Mortenson Roofing Co. come out to our almost 100-year-old house in Muncie, Indiana, to make repairs to our tile roof. Their work was fast, quick and they went out of their way (several times) to complete the job perfectly. But it wasn’t just Joe and Steve who impressed us; their office staff, Ken, the manager, and the people we dealt with via email, helped make the entire experience completely painless. We had searched and searched for roofing companies that would repair our antique tile roof for something less than a fortune – but we didn’t want to sacrifice quality work. We don’t mind paying for quality work, but the quotes we had prior to contacting Mortenson were ridiculous. Mortenson quoted us a fair price and completed the job on budget and in less time than expected. If we ever need roof repair work again, or if we ever know anyone who needs quality roof repair work done, Mortenson Roofing Co. will be the first place we call.

Description of Work: Roof Replacement (cedar shingle to slate tile)
Member Comments: Mortenson Roofing – I appreciate everything you did for us. I know it was not the easiest project for you. Long story short:
Project: roof replacement
Reason: water in dining room and maids living quarters
First Step: Make appointments, collect proposals
Second Step: Decision, decision, decision…
Third Step: Find a good time to start the project
Then, time to start. The big roof repair project made me nervous. (Unnecessary) Ken, Jeff, Rick, and everyone who use to work for us – thank you so very much!! Thank you for your professionalism, excellent work, and great customer service.

Member Comments: We hired Mortenson Roofing to help repair our tile roof on our 1926 Spanish stucco style home in Park Ridge. Every time it rained; we would get water in our living room. I had called 3 roofing companies out before finding Mortenson and all of them said they couldn’t/wouldn’t work on a tile roof. So, when my neighbor gave me Mortenson’s card, I was cautiously hopeful. After making the call, their salesman Ken Swart set up an appointment with me to come see the roof. He was very easy to communicate with and accommodated my schedule. He climbed up on the ladder, took pictures of the problem and confidently told me that they could fix my problem. He also gave me a copy of the Know Your Consumer Rights brochure which is required by law (a mark of professional roofing contractors). I received the invoice in the mail a few days later, it was detailed and broken out by option. After contemplating the work for a few weeks (maybe months), we decided to go for it. They take credit cards which is a huge perk for those of us who like to earn miles! I paid 25% down and scheduled my roof repair job. On the day of the roof repair job, the two roofers arrived before schedule but patiently waited in their van until the official “start time.” Tony and his assistant were very polite and efficient. They were able to repair the tile roof without any major issues and ended up replacing the flashing. The job looks beautiful, I’m so happy we found Mortenson. I actually want it to rain to test it out! I will definitely be using them in the future if we have any tile roof issues.

Description of Work: Concrete roof tiles maintenance. Provided and replaced a broken concrete hip tile, replaced 5 cracked concrete roof tiles (from our personal supply of spares), removed and replaced rotten lip board that holds a row of concrete roof tiles. Inspected the roof for maintenance issues.
Member Comments: Ken, our estimator, took a few days to contact us and make an appointment but once it was set up, he was prompt, courteous and clearly knew how a concrete tile roof is constructed and how it should be maintained. He took several pictures and a video, explained the job, and was quick to turn around the roof repair estimate. Joe, our installer and his assistance were very prompt. (Joe called as he was coming to tell us when he would arrive, too.) Ken had met with Joe to show him the pictures and video and explain the roof repair job, so Joe knew just what needed to be done when he arrived. They were careful about walking on the tile roof (no additional cracks), very courteous, explained all that they did as they were doing it, and asked for confirmation of each step to be done. It was clear that they knew how to work on a tile roof. they were thorough, neat, and effective.

Description of Work: Repaired our 1916 clay tile roof. Repaired the gutters around it. Replaced 85 clay roof tiles with exactly the same color clay roof tiles dated 1925. Replaced a valley in between the clay roof tiles.
Member Comments: Two roofers came. They both were very polite and very knowledgeable. One had 20+ years of experience with slate and clay tile roof. They worked steadily for 3 days, all day from 8 till 4, in blazing heat. They were on time every day. Every day they cleaned up and took all the garbage and debris. We had leaks in several locations of the tile roof, since the work was completed, no problems whatsoever. Prior to the work Mortenson sent us a highly knowledgeable former roofer, also a specialist with slate tile and clay roof tiles, who assessed the work to be done, this was well coordinated with roofers and the front office who made the contract. I also had a competitor come and do the same thing, the result was a ridiculous $ estimate, and an arrogant attitude, and not being able to come for 3 months at least. So, the choice was clear = Mortenson. BTW: On purpose I waited several months to write this review to make sure that we had a few good rains to determine the success of the work!

Description of Work: Replaced old plumbing vent flashing on shingle roof at back of the house.
Member Comments: Mortenson inspects our tile roof/shingle roof every other year then performs roof repair services– 1929 tile roof. On time. Did a professional job. Very easy to talk too. Bought the house in 1995. They did an extensive roof repair, have maintained it since. Have never tried other roofing companies, so I cannot compare cost. We have been very happy with them.

Member Comments: I have had them for forty years. They are “A” across the board. I have had them in two houses. They know what they are doing. Once again, a family owned, whenever I look for someone I try to find family owned businesses that have been around for generations. I like the individual relationship. They are just experts. They do the job.

Description of Work: They did some cedar shake repair/patch work and flashing work, installed standing seam copper roofs in 2 areas, installed custom decorative copper panels on soffits and eaves as well as installed copper finials.
Member Comments: They installed copper gutters and did roof repair/maintenance work on the slate roof of my previous house years ago. I like them so much that when I moved to Northwest IN, I called them instead of local roofing contractors. All work was done beautifully. They are very good about explaining what they are doing and keeping in contact with you about when they are coming out, etc. The City gave them some grief, and they handled it very professionally and did everything they needed to do to appease them and get the job completed. Definitely recommend them.

Member Comments: Mortenson estimated the cost, began the job and completed the work on time within their original estimate. Workmanship was excellent, timely and correctly done. I have used this company many times in the past, and I highly recommend them for quality work at a fair price. They are experts in the restoration of historic homes with a tile roof or slate roof and copper gutters. I trust my landmarked house to them.
